Educators
The Joeys' group will have an Early Childhood Teacher, a group leading educator (qualified with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or ACECQA approved equivalent training) and a second educator or assistant educator (holding either a Diploma or Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care respectively, or ACECQA approved equivalent training). If the permanent educators are absent, the centre has a very consistent group of relief staff to fill in for their absence, and the children generally become familiar with the relief educators. Program Our Program has been developed using the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Our vision encompasses belonging, being and becoming. Our program itself is child-centered, child-initiated, spontaneous and ever-changing. Children may participate in colouring, painting, gluing, play-dough, sand play, water play, bike riding, jumping, reading, and singing. This list could go on forever. What you need to know is this, your child will smile, laugh, learn to make friends, build, create, be inspired, inspire others, learn conflict resolution, learn to wait for a turn, learn to help themselves and others, sing, be sung to, read, be read to, run, jump and hop but more than anything they will have FUN. Sometimes, based on recent observations, we plan experiences. These may be due to a particular interest an individual or group may have or there may be a celebration or event that the children wish to further investigate. You will be able to see what happened each day by reading the Program journal located just outside the room door. We welcome and encourage family participation so please feel free to chat to any of our Educators about anything regarding our Program. Meal Time All meals are to be provided by families for their children. Please pack all food items that your child will need for their stay in care. Please inform staff of any food allergies your child may have. The centre asks that families do not pack nuts or nut products (peanut butter, nutella, some muesli bars) for their child as some children and educators can have severe allergic reactions to these items. The pre-kindy's school-readiness program requires families to pack room temperature friendly lunches. The centre provides cutlery (it is not necessary to pack these items). If your child is present for a routine meal time (10:30am, 12:30pm, 3:30pm) we would appreciate you packing a snack for them so they can sit and eat with the group. If you are looking for meal or snack ideas, our educators are always available and happy to discuss healthy eating ideas for children. Please note that we are a wrapper free centre and as such, encourage parents to pack lunches without wrappers. |
What to bring?
Pack everything together in a clearly labelled bag for your child:
Group Routine This is the standard routine for the Joeys, however the routine has some flexibility and variation dependent on spontaneous activities and children's temperaments. 7:30am Centre opens. Meet outside if weather permits, or find centre educators in the pre-kindy, babies or toddlers room to transition your child. 10:15am Mat Session: songs, stories, group games. 10:30am Morning Tea 11:00am Learning-through-play time and creative experiences 12:15pm Mat Session 12:30pm Lunch 1:00pm Rest Time 2:00pm Learning-through-play time 3:15pm Mat Session 3:30pm Afternoon Tea 4:00pm Learning-through-play time 5:00pm Centre closes 'Learning-through-play' can occur inside or outside depending on the weather. It is an opportunity for the children to explore their environment and play with the available toys. Educators offer planned and spontaneous experiences during this time such as science experiments, physical exercise and games, creative opportunities and other learning experiences. Sleep Time The Joeys' group has a rest/sleep period from 1pm-2pm daily. Each child has their own bed with fresh linen provided to lie on. During rest/sleep time the lighting is dimmed and soothing music is played. This rest period is essential for children of this age to recharge for the afternoon. If you do not wish your child to rest/sleep, we recommend you book either a morning or afternoon appointment outside of the sleep period. |
